Executive Summary Report of the First Four Months of 2008
For the first four months of 2008, visitor arrivals to Cambodia was 818,108; an 14.0% increase compared to the same period of 2007; Siem Reap Angkor arrivals had increased with 447,495 visitors, with a share of 54.7%; while Phnom Penh and other destinations had brought in a total of 370,613 visitors with 45.3% share.
Mode of Arrivals
The total number of visitor arrivals in Cambodia by air in April 2008 was 101,305, an increase of 1.2%. This consisted of flights that had been scheduled through the Phnom Penh and Siem Reap International Airport. Phnom Penh International Airport had 47,358 visitor arrivals this month, representing 27.2%, with an increase of 12.4%, while Siem Reap International Airport dominated 53,947 visitor arrivals, with 31.0% of share. Other travelers went via Land & Waterways, which made up about one-third of the total number of visitor arrivals 61,246, a 28.7% increased. Visitors arriving by land comprised of 57,871 with a share of 33.3%. Waterways made up of 3,375 visitor arrivals (1.9%), giving it an increase of 8.5%. Same-day visitors brought in 11,352 with a share of 6.5%.
Top ten markets arrivals
From January - April 2008, South Korea visitors maintained their position, being at the top with (15.0%) of the market share. Other key markets included Vietnam (9.2%) of market share, Japan (7.8%), the United States of America (7.2%), and China (6.4%). Visitor arrivals from Thailand (+48.3%), France (+20.4%), Taiwan, China (-7.5%), United Kingdom (+17.2%), Australia (+20%). Growth from long haul market although the United States of America, the United Kingdom, France remained and Australia in the top 10 market arrivals countries.
